Bartolini Emerging Artists

Bartolini Emerging Artists are hard working musicians that love
their Barts! They are not yet signed with a major label or a major group but are dedicated to their music and to  their instruments. Many of these emerging artists play in several bands and  often stand in for other musicians and support various causes in their community.

Bartolini and Dana B. Goods salute them!

My Barts:

Bartolinis in my Ramsey Bass.

My Story:

I comes from Liège in Belgium.  At the age of ten I  started playing drums at primary school with Frederic Dessard who played with the famous Micheal Jones (Jean-Jacques Goldman). In 2006, everything changed… I had always been in love with the bass guitar, even at the time it  wasn't the most popular instrument to play.  I spent three years being taught by Alain Rinallo (Wendy Nazaré, Benjamin Schoos, Jean-François Maljean, Christophe Maroye). I began to explore a variety of musical genres, and developed, in particular, an interest in Pop, R’n’B, Jazz and Experimental music.

I formed a rock and progressive band called 'Today' with some friends, performing locally and we produced two EPs “Your Soul” co-production with Studio 5 and “Time R(e)volution”  in full autoproduction.

With the completion of this project I became a freelancer, adding Blues, Funk, 70’s Rock, Electronic music and Dubstep to my repertoire.  During this period I was also the stage manager for Wendy Nazaré.

Since 2010 I have been the bass player and arranger for the Belgian pop’n’blues band 'Maybelline'.  I have performed all over the country, recorded live, broadcast and on radio. I recently joined the line-up for Aprile (with Patrick Schouters on drums),  a talented young Belgian singer who has played in well-known festivals such as Francofolies de Spa, Bel’zik Festival, Fiesta City and more.

I am composing and producing for Lula Bay, an ambiant pop, folk project which has just released #CATHARSIS PART 1. I am also a session musician for various artists. I enjoy teaching and have developed my own YouTube channel where I shares tips, advice, covers and technique for bass players in the Belgian music scene.

I am also an endorser for Ramsay Musical Instruments, Candy Custom Gear and studies Communication at University.

"The Bartolini pickups on my pink bass is great because I get a clear tone with just enough growl when I dig in with my fingers.  When I built the bass, I tried 5 or 6 brands of pickups before choosing the Bartolini pickups.  When I heard the tone, I was sold.  I choose a passive tone configuration because I think I get a more even sound especially when I use pedal effects."

My Barts:

I use Bartolini pickups on a pink homemade parts bass

My Story:

I have been a musician since the early 1990’s, performing with several Los Angeles-based original bands like Treehouse and All Day Wire.  In 2000, I moved to the San Francisco bay area to perform with rap-rock band The Restitution.  In the mid-2000s, I changed my focus to performing with cover bands that focus on corporate events and weddings.  Since 2007, I havebeen the bassist with Fast Times, an 80’s cover band.  I have also performed with top 40 cover bands Aftershoxx and Night Train.  Playing in cover bands is great because it allows me to study the playing styles of many amazing bass players as well as great songwriters.  Being able to read notation, tabs and play by ear also helps me to be efficient.  The last piece of the puzzle is having great equipment to be able to emulate different bass styles.

My Barts:

I have a Fender Custom PJ with a 9J-S1 and an 8Su P Bass pickup, an Ibanez Destroyer with M4SS-B/T and an MMC Humbucker, a MTD Kingston Saratoga Deluxe with Bartolini Dark/Bright Jazz Pickups and the 3 band Bartolini Preamp.

My Story:

I am a session bassist and performer out of Las Vegas Nevada. I have been playing bass for a little over 15 years. After years of local shows, promoting and touring, I saw an opportunity when a band I was scouted for, Kid Deposit Triumph, began working with Music Label Sony BMG in 2007-2009. As the low end for Hardcore and Metal band KDT, I tempered my chops, skills and presence out on the road.  After finishing recording the EP with Howard Benson and more touring, KDT saw its way all the way to the end of Sony BMG and its artist roster. Some years later, I now write solo music and operate as a bassist for hire for all kinds of music genres, acts and styles. I endorse the following companies; MTD Kingston Basses, Prat Basses, Darkglass Electronics, TecAmp, and Tsunami Cables.

My Barts:

My Story:

I grew up in the small town of Boerne, TX, and started playing bass and guitar when I was 13 years old and started gigging in bands at 15. I have played with a lot of bands in the Central Texas area throughout the years. I made the move to Austin on 2009 and played lead for a few bands before going back to playing bass. I have played shows opening for many names in Texas Country and Country music in general, including Deryl Dodd, Gretchen Wilson, Randy Rogers Band, Gary Allan, and the legendary Merle Haggard, to name a few. I have played bass for Trent Willmon when I can and for Jarrod Birmingham for the last two years. I play for Jarrod still on a "when available" basis, but currently I live in Temple, TX and I am playing bass for Southern Sky.

I am a bassist/multi-instumentalist and I have performed with several signed bands, recently toured as substitute bassist with thrash metal giant Flotsam and Jetsam, and I am the bassist for my current band – Inhumatus.  Earlier I performed internationally as a band member of thrash metal band Toxik.

I have played music all over the world including several countries in Europe and South America.    Notable festival performances include Keep It True XVII (Lauda-Königshofen, Germany) and Alcatraz Metal Festival 2014 (Kortrijk, Belgium).  I can understand and speak enough Spanish to be dangerous and I know the international languages of music and great beer.

I started off my musical career studying and playing saxophone.  I am able to apply and develop that knowledge to bass, guitar, Chapman Stick, keyboard, and even drums. I am known for playing both the fretted and fretless bass and continue to work towards furthering my knowledge of the instrument, music theory and incorporating different styles into my playing. I am also capable of singing backing vocals if needed.

I know that music talent isn’t enough.  My hard work and perseverance have established me as a musical force in the New York area and nationally as well.

My Story:

I am a Los Angeles native and I started playing bass at the age of 14. Spending my free time learning all of my favorite songs by ear, I soon gained a reputation at my high school as a great bassist. Continuing to learn as I entered college at Pasadena City, I auditioned for every performance group the college had. Making all but one, I filled what little free time I had with night gigs and open mic nights.

Since then I have worked as a freelance bassist and private instructor for almost a decade. Playing with groups with styles from Jazz to Rock, R&B to Latin, there’s no genre I can’t handle. Whether providing the groove in the studio, house bassist at jazz festivals, or giving private lessons, I have been fortunate to accomplish so much...with much more on the horizon!

"I’ve been using Bartolini pickups for 3 years now
and I’m totally in love.
There hasn’t been one
pickup I’ve played so far
that can match Bartolini.
Being in a metal band I
use my low end heavily and
my MK-1’s have given me
that super chunky low end
that I’ve been looking for.  When I need my high end
they give me the bright
clarity that I look for. All
in all, Bartolini is a great product and I recommend
them to any player no
matter what style of
music you play."

photo by Gary Menna at JumpShipPhotography

My Barts:

I’m currently using an Ibanez SR506 with Bartolini MK-1 in them.  Also, I have a Cort Curbow 5 string with Bartolini AMK1-5/F.

My Story:

My name is Tony Ferla and I’m a bass player in a CT.  Music started for me when I was 13 years old when I received a drum set as a gift.  I couldn’t separate my hands from my feet so I decided to give bass a shot instead and instantly fell in love with the instrument.  I’ve been playing for 12 years now in which 4 of those years have been for CT based metal band Dream of Scipio.  Dream of Scipio’s debut you album will be out in 2015.  I constantly push myself as a bass player and it has given me the ability to appreciate all the different kind of music in this world.  No matter what style I play, I feel at home with bass!

I am currently an Endorsing Artist for Brubaker Guitars and Tecamp Bass Players Gear. I have been playing electric bass for 42 years and seriously for the last four years. In addition to making music in the U.S. I have played as a sideman in venues all over the world including Germany, Japan, and Hawaii.  I was born and raised in West Philly into a musical family as my Father (Walt Sr) was a local Jazz Musician. (Tenor Sax). Every Sunday my father would host jam sessions at the Finnerty residence. I picked up the Electric bass at age 15 and started with formal lessons from Classical Guitarist Jack Leonard using Simandl and Hindemith methods as study material. That lasted a whole 18 months. When I heard Larry Graham and Graham Central Station my life changed forever! I stopped taking lessons and have been self- taught up until recently. I have re-dedicated himself to my craft and is now studying with great intensity. Although exposed to many forms of music my music of choice and forte’ to play is FUNK.

My Barts:

My 4001 Rickenbacker has a Bartolini 6RT neck position pickup

My Story:

I am a product of the school music programs in my hometown of Wilmington, Ohio, and Ohio Northern University, in Ada, Ohio, with diverse influences of rock, jazz, country, marching, and orchestral. I have played drums or bass in several groups, including Black Moon, Old Gold Country, John Street Garage, the Country Classic Opry, the WHS Reunion Band, and now the Reload band. What a gas! It's so great to be playing in a killer funk/soul/pop kickin' horn band! I also play latin percussion, and a bit of harmonica and flute. When I am not practicing tunes, I am likely underneath my older Land Rover, riding motorcycles, cutting firewood, or doing something around the "house in the woods" with my wife and daughter.

There's incredible talent in this band, with a huge variety of background and influence. It makes me want to work hard to continually earn the respect of the band and the fans. I joined the group in September 2014, and I am looking forward to adding my character to the ongoing adventures of the Reload band.

My Barts:

My MTD USA 535-24 is loaded with Bartolini soap bar pickups.

My Story:

I have owned many basses with various electronics, some of them better than others.  When I joined the MTD family, I knew that I found basses which were far superior to any other I have owned or played.   When I had my MTD USA built, it came with Bartolini electronics.  These pickups are incredibly powerful and versatile.  I had to dial back the volume on my amp in order to bring the volume level back down to where I was not covering up the rest of the band. The sound is great and and tonal ranges are extreme.  You can make them scream for rock music, or be smooth as silk for the blues.

My Barts:

I have Vintage 90s Bartolini 60 in my Charvel CX291 and MM4CBC in my MTD Artist bass

My Story:

I’ve been a gigging musician since the mid-80s. In that time I have performed most all styles of music you could think of. Versatility is a must for me, be it on bass, my main instrument or electric guitar. I was introduced to Bart’s by a luthier/repair shop. From clean to crunch on guitar and fingered, picked, or slapped & popped on bass they always made a great tone! I have been sold on them since then. They are the go to pick up for monster tone. In my current band, THE BAD HUSBANDS CLUB, we cover funk, rock & roll, swing, jazz, disco- everything. My MTD was a great sounding bass out of the box…but the Bart made it a tone beast! With a schedule of 80-100 gigs yearly, dependability is a must and these don’t offer any issues…just great tone every night.

I am no stranger to the road. I have always had a life encircled by music. Following in my father's footsteps, I have been in the music industry for the past 20 years. Although bass is my main instrument, you can find me playing guitar, harmonica, keys, and I dabble with percussion too. I believes that "as a musician you should strive to be Great and not the best, because there is no best. But you can be great."

It took a few years and joining a few bands before eventually finding my place as the new bassist for the hard rock band Hindsight. I have been playing bass since the age of 15 and I have been a professional bassist since the age of 17. My love and passion for bass is apparent in my playing and attitude . I have played over 500 gigs and been blessed to share the stage with many national and international artists. You can currently hear me play in the metal band War of Thrones along side guitar great Rick Renstrom and vocal legend Wade Black . You can also hear me in the HOLMES AND SLICE Band, a neoclassical metal blues band that features my solo abilities and allows creative freedoms from the normal ideals of what bass should be. My ability to match Rick Renstrom on some of the fastest leads is unheard of and my melodic and shred solos are proof that bass can shred as well.

and my Ibanez RGKP6 has a BD4CBC.

My Story:

Alice Sweet Alice (ASA) founder Scott Martinez is a bass player and multi-instrumentalist, a singer, a composer, a lyricist, session player and audio engineer specializing in the Alt. Rock and Hard Rock genres.  His primary group Alice Sweet Alice which is based in Kansas City, Missouri, plays Alternative Rock that hails from the post punk era - with textures of metal, electronica and jazz. ASA tours primary in the Midwest from Chicago to New Orleans, but will be branching out to the east and west USA in 2017.  He arranged, produced, and recorded all of ASA’s albums.
Scott first discovered music in the woods of Maine at a very young age. Sitting around a campfire with his Grandfather, someone pulled out a guitar and started singing. Drawn in through the eyes of a child, Scott was amazed at how something so simple could be so powerful.  A completely self-taught musician, Scott first was drawn to guitar, and when his first teenage punk band needed a bassist – Scott stepped up and bass became his primary instrument.  Scott also plays guitar, keyboards and percussion instruments for ASA and client studio projects.

Although Alice Sweet Alice keeps him quite busy, Scott also owns Audio Cave Recording Studio in Kansas City, a boutique Project Studio that is hybrid analog/digital.  Scott is available for session work, mixing projects and full band recordings.  Scott has been in involved in the production of music projects from the Midwest and all over the world.

My Barts:

My Story:

From as far back as I can remember the connection of music and emotion hooked me. The ability to connect on that level with folks you'll never meet is truly mind altering. At sixteen began playing bass in a blur. My friend had a week to teach me the instrument and twelve songs as a replacement to their bassist. I fell in love with the sound and the role instantly. We went on to put together a perennial punk band in the Dayton Ohio scene and we played anywhere we could and learned a lot about writing and playing out. So then I moved on to sing and play bass for two bands on Sin Klub records and really dove head first into learning theory. Living in a college town surrounded by talented local musicians really made me want to step up my game. So I made it a point to listen to a lot of different music and really become involved in my local and regional scene.

That brings me to the current two bands I play bass for. I have been writing and singing back up with BathHouseBetty (Toledo, OH) for seven years now and started playing and touring as the bassist for Dragon Wagon (Ann Arbor, MI) last spring. I have had the opportunity to play with a lot of big bands and play in front of HUGE crowds. I am living my dream and it has only begun for me. I plan on working hard to go as far as music will take me.

Living in the south has given Jamess a very diverse combination of music influences – from jazz to blues to rock & roll to metal.  He uses it all when he composes and mixes complex rhythms and harmonies.  He believes in maintaining a structure of free improvisation so that the soul can feel the music.

Jamess has a studio at home so he can indulge in his various musical projects.  It meant he had to teach himself DAW Reaper – many tutorials later and lots of experimenting with plug-ins and he is just beginning to scratch the surface of all of its capabilities.  He learned enough that he was able to master all the songs for his band and his artist pages on reverb.  He uses a Tascam digital recorder for his travel gigs.

Right now he is currently playing bass for SUPER HeavyWeight out of Texarkana, TX.  They specialize in Southern Metal Groove that will make your head go north and south with a dose of southern hospitality.  It is all original music with extreme fan approval. The music they perform is unlike any ever heard before.  He says that if Pantera and ZZ Top had a child while listening to “Dangerous Toys” they would have created SUPER HeavyWeight.

"I've been playing bass
for the last 16 years. I've played many brands and
many different types of pickups, and after hearing
the tone of wood through
a pair of Bartolini pickups,
I knew they were exactly
what I needed. I haven't
heard pickups yet that can bring out the best of the instruments REAL tone,
instead of having a tone
that's the same regardless
of any instrument they're
put in. Bartolini pickups
truly bring out the best
tonal qualities of ANY instrument!"

My Story:

Music and entertainment are ways of expressing oneself and is an avenue for bringing people together and forming bonds and friendships.  It can bring many different genres and cultures together and are the ingredients to the ultimate recipe; the different strokes and colors on the canvas of the big picture.  I emphasize this with my unique style of guitar playing and musical influences ranging from Blues, Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Classical, Reggae and the list goes on. I have a passion for music and a love for unity through music and entertainment.

I have been an enthusiast of entertainment ever since I was a child.  At age 19 I was inspired to make music on the guitar after listening to the Beatles, Eric Clapton, and Pink Floyd.  A year later, I was performing with my older brother's band, Diagnosis: Free.  The following eight years I have performed and recorded with various acts, including my current project Ignation.

I hold a Certificate in Music, an Associate's degree in Music Business, and an Associate's degree in Science from Schenectady County Community College.  There I studied music theory under Professors Mark Evans, Anthony Sano, and Bret Wery, guitar under Jim Wilson, and played in the SCCC Jazz Ensemble directed by Dr. William Meckley.  I currently teach private lessons in guitar and music theory in addition to my work with the rock band Ignation.

My MTD 635 has Barts that are a proprietary design for MTD

My Story:

Being the son of a Pastor, I had been exposed to music at a very early age learning a wide variety of musical instruments. I first started playing bass in 2006 when the previous bassist left my father’s church.  I was a self-taught musician with a hunger for growth and knew I needed some formal instruction.  In 2011 I became a student of world renowned bassist Justin Raines with J Raines Lessons.  I am known in the Canadian gospel music circles as an Emerging Artist to watch! You can find me playing around in local churches and other venues.

I currently play for Gospel Artist Sheldon Neil, and also at Faith International Church where I serve as the Young Adult leader. I endorse MTD Guitars, TecAmp Amplifications, LaBella Strings, and regularly use GruvGear products.

My Conklin 7-String Sidewinder with P4 Pickups, NTMB Preamp, my Adler 7-String Fretless with P4 Pickups, NTMB Preamp, and my HJC Custom 5-String with NTMB Preamp / Gibson Les Paul with PBC Pickups

My Story:

I have played music for 22 years. I started playing at age 10, learned to play by ear soon after. Although my first instrument was a guitar, I always wanted to play bass. This was influenced by Gene Simmons of KISS since I loved Rock music since age 4. Finally got my first bass at age 13, just what the doctor ordered. One month after that, I joined my first band "Stonehenge". I was still influenced by Rock music and the technical aspect of playing. I wanted to be able to play with the technical prowess of all of my influences at the time. It was this hunger for technique which led me to Jazz music. Jazz opened up my ears and mind/soul to a new way of feeling music. Jazz showed me how to feel Romance, Sadness, Happiness, and all of the emotions any person would feel in life. It was then clear to me that I was meant to play how I felt, and those who heard my music would not only hear the music, but feel it as well.

Past projects include Aretha Franklin Keyboardist Chinbaa, Mongolian Pop Group SweetYmotion, Chicago Artist Kalye Lapetina, American Idol Crystal Bowersox, and Rock Group Minor Rites.

My Barts:

My Story:

My life has been involved in music from a very early age. At the age of 3 I started to pick up drums by playing on my father’s set. Once I was old enough my parents put me into formal piano lessons to help give me a solid musical foundation. Through those lessons, I learned to read music as well as get a basic knowledge of music theory. This, though, was only the beginning. In my last year of grade school, I joined the school band program and picked up a third instrument, saxophone. I played Saxophone all the way until I graduated high school as the first chair in the symphony band. It wasn’t until late in middle school that I picked up bass, my last (and most known for) instrument. I started plucking on my father’s vintage MusicMan at home and learning songs by ear. It wasn’t until a chance moment in high school though that things really “clicked”. My high school band teacher, Chris Braue, slotted me to play bass for the marching band’s competitive show, a jazz medley. It was a crash course in reading music on bass. That coupled with extracurricular music theory study with my teacher really catapulted me as a player.

Soon after that, I took over the main bass chair in the high school jazz band until I graduated. After high school, I continued my education in music starting at Indian Bible College. I played on all but 1 track of the “To The Truth Live” album, which (for a freshman) was quite unheard of. I often tell the story of how that was the album that made me the player I is today. The main guy had gotten very ill and they were talking about flying someone in to be able to even do the recording. Then Lindy (Lindel Anderson, Dean of Music) happened to walk in on me practicing more than just the songs I was supposed learn. “Can you handle it?” he asked. The rest is history. I spent 5 hours/day for weeks shedding tunes to get caught up and be ready for the recording. I had to get really good really fast haha.

Since that first recording, I have gone on to play with dozens of artists on stages/in studios all over the world. I have toured in the US, Canada, South America and Europe. Along the way, I also found the time to learn about the use of Pro Tools. Now, not only am I able to perform live, but I can also track remotely from home or while on the road via my personal home and mobile Pro Tools studios to collaborate with other artists and projects all over the world.

Bartolini 9J-1 Hum-Canceling Jazz pups in my 1978 Ibanez Silver Series Jazz Bass (passive Vol/Vol/Tone)

My Story:

I grew up in a musical family.  My dad played guitar, my mom played piano, and my brother played saxophone for a time.  My mom purchased the bass that I now play for my dad when it was brand new, after a side-by-side comparison with a Fender Jazz Bass with similar specs.  Eventually, my dad gave me the bass to play.

I’ve been playing bass guitar since about 1993 or 1994; somewhere in that period of time.  I’ve been blessed to have played with many great musicians, and work in some of the best studios in my pocket of the world.  I am currently serving as bassist with Crossing Avery, a country/rock duo out of Greensboro, NC.  I am involved in a few side projects as well, including serving as bassist in a couple of churches in the area.

I have collaborated as a session bass player for different artists on both live and studio recordings.   Some of the acts include 5punto1, Jose Manuel Ospina, D.C, Mony Vasquez, and Leena. In 2008 I began touring around Colombia with Diana Hoyos for Blog Magazine Tour and “Oye Bonita”, with Nat on Nemcatacoa Festival, Marc Anthony Live in Bogotá, Car Audio Colombia, Cali Summer Fest, with Audioplaneto Live Session bass player in Mompox Jazz Festival 2013.

By 2013, I was sharing stages around the world with musicians like Billy Porter, Steve Brookstein, William Blake and Echoes of Etta, Kimberly Caldwell, Phillip Brown, Kate Dowman, Laura Brod, Ben Mills, Journey South, Lovena Fox, Analiza Ching, Craig Dahn, Elliot and Ian Finkel, Nick Page, Peter Grant, Monique Dehaney, Tamara Gou and many others.

My Story:

I am a self- taught Bass player and music enthusiast.  I am a Lefty that started playing at 11 years of age and was nicknamed (PeeWee Hendrix) by my peers, I started my musical journey in Gospel music in the church where I was raised.

I immediately began expanding my musical knowledge by learning many other genres of music such as Classical, Country, Rock, R&B, and Jazz just to name a few. I am the Band Director of my own band  M.B.K.  (My Brother’s Keeper). I have taken many examples of my style of playing from other great Bass Players such as Andrew Gouche’, Marcus Miller and the late great Wayman Tisdale.  I also uses my talent as a Producer and Song Writer, and work in Protools and Logic X and I love the challenge of musically creating new material for myself and the band.

I use Bartolini Pickups, Preamps and Pro Electronics and I consider the quality, craftsmanship, and tonal ability unsurpassed, each time I am graced to hear the great sound that is produced, which only Bartolini Electronics has the ability to create. I also have a little saying “A True Musician feels what he plays and plays what he feels”, because as we know music comes from the heart and matters not if you like it or it’s genre someone, some Artist took the time to share what was inside of them and you can’t do anything but respect that!

"Bartolini has their unique sound which complements
your instrument and brings
all necessary aspects: round and rich bass, natural mids
and bright punchy treble frequences; string to string
has the same power, all dynamic range is very sensitive, so you feel instrument much better.
Also, Bart pups look so
sexy!"

My Story:

I am a Ukrainian bass player and I was born in the early 1990’s.  My musical path started from listening to classical rock and blues which inspired me to get a musical education. I attended a music school at my hometown and at Glier music university in Kiev.  I spent a considerable amount of time augmenting my education with progressive bass guitar that I learned from YouTube and bass video schools like John Myung, Victor Wooten, John Patitucci and other bass masters.

Now I am a live and studio session musician, I plays pop music, fusion\jazz, hip-hop, rock\metal and other stuff.  My current main bands are Joira (pop, pop-rock), Julia Voice (pop) and Endocranial (death metal). I also have my own solo bass project in fusion\jazz\progressive genre and ethnic\black metal Ukrainian collaboration band where I am one of the composers.   In my spare time from these music projects, I also teache, give workshop or work in many recording sessions.  My students and clients are from all over the world – including Poland, Russia, Canada, Italy and the UK.
